GUTHRIE — On the stately front steps of the historic Guthrie Scottish Rite Masonic Center, where a red carpet is cascading down the stairs, Ryan Francis is taking calls related to the industry he's worked in for more than four decades.

"It's just something I've always wanted to do my whole life: Beyond acting, I wanted to write, I wanted to direct, I wanted to produce. ... I really do enjoy being a part of the whole creative process and getting people together and just building a team that is creating art together — and I couldn't be happier being here in Oklahoma, making (it) with these people," he said.

A former child actor who starred in the 1990s in the Oscar-nominated movie "Hook" and the Emmy-winning series "Sisters," Francis talked with The Oklahoman during a dinner break on the set of "A Secret Royal Romance," an innovative upcoming project he's producing that spent three days in May filming at the century-old Guthrie Masonic temple.
